Elle Griffin of The Elysian posted a word prompt, “Use Technology for Good, Not Evil”, earlier this month that had me thinking back on a conversation I had with my son about the declining honeybee population and what it could mean for humans.
Thank you, that's a lovely vignette. I do have a question though... I don't feel it is clear how no longer being needed to pollinate crops saved the bee population itself.
Beekeepers will typically transport hives to crop locations so they are pollinated, especially in the case of big commercial farms. This puts strain on the colony and a large number of bees die from just the travel. Add in exposure to pesticides commonly used in said farms and you’ve got a recipe for misery for the critical honeybee. I think removing that fact will allow the bees to recover.
